On Sunday night, I caught up with some friends for dinner and we decided to head south-side to Tuggeranong for some Turkish food at Little Istanbul. I love Turkish food! The last time we tried coming here was on a Friday night and it was completely packed out. It was pretty quiet on the Sunday.
There’s a slim waterfall water feature inside where the water flows down a see-through glass panel. Quite nice. There are quite a lot of tables inside, and outdoor dining available too.
There is a banquet menu available, as well as the normal menu. The kabak (zucchini balls) are my favourite entrée but I decided to skip the entrée as I wasn’t that hungry.
I ordered the Iskender ($24.50) – thinly shaved spiced lamb layered on grilled pide bread slices topped with garlic yoghurt and Turkish tomato salsa sauce. There was a lot of meat. Beautiful thin slices of lamb marinated in a delicious sauce and piled up on the plate. It did start to get quite salty the more I ate, and I was thankful for the tap water provided. A minimal side salad was also provided. I couldn’t finish this dish as there was so much meat. I noticed a huge pool of oil at the bottom of the plate as the pile of meat slowly went down. To be honest, I think I would’ve preferred rice and more salad to the 2 slices of pide bread that came with the dish.
My friends ordered the Sis Kebab ($24.50) – lamb marinated, seasoned and grilled on skewers served with a side of rice.
The chicken salad ($17) – sliced chicken breast served with seasonal salad and dressing. I could see huge succulent looking slice of chicken breast on top of the salad. May need to try that next time.
I thought the food was alright and it’s roughly the same price as that of the Turkish Pide House. Service from our young waiter was average and it didn’t take long for the food to come out. I don’t think this is special enough to go out of your way for, but if you’re in Tuggeranong and feel like some Turkish food, Little Istanbul should be able to satisfy your hunger.
