I’d read about this new health food shop based on the paleo diet (aka the caveman diet) selling fast healthy meals in the city. (See the Outincanberra article).

Thr1ve in the Canberra Centre sells freshly made salads (including gluten free options), soups, juices, smoothies and coffee. There are also massive tubs of supplements that you can buy.

I decided on one of their lunch bowls where you get to pick and choose your base – either salad greens, brown rice or sweet potato and cauliflower mash. Then choose from 6 types of salad, and sides. There are also 2 sizes to choose from – entree or main. The girl behind the counter said mains would be filled to the top of the lunch bowl. I decided on the main sized char-grilled lemon and herb chicken, roast peppers and basil pesto on salad greens with a side of sweet potato and cauliflower mash ($14.50).

First thing I noticed was for a main size, it certainly wasn’t filled to the top. Nevertheless, the chicken was succulent and juicy, the peppers not spicy but added extra zest, the salad nice and crisp and the basil just tied it all in. I really loved the mash too – what a brilliant idea! I could definitely have eaten more of it.

I’ll be going back to try out more of their lunch bowls. Thr1ve’s paleo pancakes (little dutch pancakes with maple syrup) and smoothies are also next on my food list 🙂 I hope to see more fast healthy food like this in Canberra.
