Lonsdale Street in Braddon has a nice selection of cafes, restaurants and boutique shops such as Eightysix, Autolyse, Debacle, Elk & Pea and Sweet Bones Bakery.

Sweet Bones Bakery is a vegan and organic bakery cafe. It is hidden away in the Lonsdale St Traders precinct along with several cute boutique shops. There is a quirkiness about the cafe shown in their decor – old wooden computer spindles used as tables, wooden tables crates as chairs and other mismatched chairs. It has a very earthy feel to it.

The front counter has a nice display of goodies.

The menus are written on blackboards inside.

I ordered the tempeh reuben sandwich and a kale smoothie. I sat down with a friend at a cool wooden spindle table (kind of uncomfortable on a crate with me being so tall).

The kale smoothie had apple juice, banana and flax oil in it. Didn’t look that appealing but it was sweet (and not at all kale-tasting) and went down pretty quickly.

The sandwich was served with crispy potato chips. The tempeh in the sandwich was too dry for my liking, though I must admit, that was the first time I’d tried tempeh. The bread was lovely and soft. But the overall sandwich was a bit bland.

The cupcakes on the other hand, are AMAZING. I have no idea how they make Vegan cupcakes so moist and delicious. What do they substitute for butter? The cupcakes I make never turn out that moist, and that’s with using butter!

The staff here are so friendly. I think this is a great option for Vegan’s and those wanting organic foods. I highly recommend the cupcakes 🙂

I’d be interested in trying the raw organic pie too…
