The Peppered Prawn in Woden offers a $35 early bird dinner. This includes 2 courses – an entrée and main, or main and dessert. (I’ve noticed they’ve changed this to just entrée and main now.) Being a massive dessert fan, I went with the main and dessert combo. I’d already picked out what I wanted via their website menu, so was disappointed to find out they’d actually updated the menu and the dishes I wanted were no longer available. The staff were very apologetic about this.

Seafood and pasta are two of my favourite foods so I chose the linguine marinara. This was a decent serving of pasta with chunks of yummy fish, prawns and mussels (which actually tasted fresh for Canberra). The tomato-based sauce had the flavours of seafood in it too. A nice, simple marinara dish done well.

For dessert, I chose the strawberry eton mess – basically a deconstructed strawberry meringue with ice cream. It looked like a mess coming out but I quite liked it. Chunks of broken up meringue mixed with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, cream and vanilla ice cream. An equal portion of all elements making this a very sugary dessert.

The early bird dinner is only available Tuesday to Saturday and the whole table must participate. All diners must vacate the table by 7.30pm. The set menu usually has 3 options to choose from in each course, including vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options. As mentioned above, Peppered Prawn have taken out the dessert option so it is now an entrée and main deal.

I think the early bird dinner is good value for money to try out 2 of the restaurant’s dishes. Friendly and efficient service too.
